U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently proposed adjusting the fees that people have to pay for most immigration applications and petitions. The announcement was published in the Federal Register.

This will be the first time in six years that such fees will be increased. USCIS says the increase will be an average of 21% for most applications and petitions. USCIS’s new rule will also change the current fee waiver structure for low-income applicants’ petition for naturalization. Some waivers for other types of benefits will be left in place by the agency.

Here are some of the major fee increases you need to be aware of if you plan to file an immigration application or petition on behalf of someone else:

  • Form N-600: The filing fee for the Application for Certificate of Citizenship will increase by 95%. Instead of $600, the fee will now be $1,170.
  • Form I-131: The filing fee for the Application for Travel Document will increase by $215, raising it from $360 to $575.
  • Form I-130: The filing fee to petition for an alien relative will increase by $115, making it now $535. You cannot request a fee waiver for family-based immigrant petitions.
  • Form I-485: The filing fee for the Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status will increase from $985 to $1,140.
  • Form I-90: The filing fee for the Application to Replace/Renew Permanent Residence Card will increase by $90. The new fee is $455.
  • Form I-924A: The filing fee for the Annual Certification of Regional Center will now be $3,035.
  • Form N-400: The standard filing fee will increase by 8%. The new fee is $640.
